James Phipps - Founder and CEO
James is a cyber security specialist with extensive experience in UAV platform development and flight operations. A closet inventor in his spare time.
James established the Foundation with the primary objective of advancing research and development in technologies dedicated to locating and identifying unexploded ordnance (UXO), particularly in civilian areas within Ukraine. He places a strong emphasis on collaboration with academia, open-source communities, charitable organizations, and major tech companies to facilitate the sharing of research data, driving the progress of new technologies.
His overarching goal is to lead the way in advancing the decontamination of regions worldwide afflicted by minefields. As CEO of the organization, James is responsible for overseeing hardware development, research, and flight operations.

Pavlo Melnyk - Co-Founder and CTO
Born and raised in Ukraine, Pavlo is a PhD candidate at Computer Vision Laboratory at Linköping University, specializing in geometric deep learning.
His role bridges academia and industry, as he also leads software development and machine learning (ML) team at the foundation, focusing on developing innovative object detection solutions using both real and synthetic data.
Pavlo is chairman of Ukrainska Föreningen Östergötland, a regional non-profit Ukrainian association in Sweden. Here, he spearheads various cultural and support initiatives, strengthening the bonds both within the Ukrainian community and between Ukraine and Sweden.
Pavlo’s passion for modern AI technology and his commitment to his cultural roots and country of origin are the driving forces behind his professional and community endeavors.

Tord Strømdal - Co-Founder and COO
Tord is project manager and enterprise architect by trade, originally from Norway but now living in Sweden. Tord has been heavily involved in the defense of Ukraine since the full-scale invasion started in February 2022. He co-founded the Swedish aid organization Blågula Bilen – a volunteer organization that has delivered hundreds of vehicles and equipment worth millions of Euros to Ukraine. He also held the position of CEO of Blågula Bilen during the organization’s growth from 2 to 100 volunteers.
Tord was one of the initial driving forces behind DEMINE and focuses on organizational structure, inter-organizational coordination and marketing.

António Ramires - Co-Founder, Computer Vision & ML Jedi
António is an Assistant Professor at the University of Minho, Portugal, where his expertise in Computer Graphics and Deep Learning for Computer Vision comes to life. Dedicated to applying his vast knowledge for the benefit of our foundation, he stands at the forefront of educational and research endeavors.
Away from academia, António enjoys cycling along picturesque rivers and delving into the culinary world, adding balance and creativity to his life and fueling his innovative spirit.
In the realm of technology, António is advancing the use of Game Engines to develop synthetic environments for advanced object recognition models. Known as 'the Unreal guy' within the foundation, his unique blend of computer graphics skills and a deep passion for deep learning make him an integral part of our ML team. António's work epitomizes the innovative and exploratory ethos of the foundation.

Lee Lambert - Co-Founder, Ukr Ops Manager
Lee is the primary frontline resource of Demine, collaborating with volunteers representing many different organizations.
Lee has been on the ground in Ukraine as a volunteer to and from since March 2022. Initially, he did mostly humanitarian evacuations, delivering supplies to isolated areas near the frontlines, etc. but transitioned to mostly supporting military units.
Lee heads upper Ukrainian Ops team, charged with data collection and relationship management.

Ingmar Stapel
Ingmar is a seasoned IT professional with extensive experience spanning roles as an IT project manager, Enterprise Technical Architect, and futurist in the innovation sector. In addition, Ingmar has authored a book on Raspberry Pi and robotics.
Specializing in image recognition with neural networks, Ingmar's work in data processing and neural network training is pivotal in enhancing the effectiveness of our demining efforts.
Outside of his technical pursuits, Ingmar is passionate about sharing his knowledge, frequently delivering lectures on robotics and technology, aiming to educate and inspire others. Through his personal blogs, he discusses current technology trends and showcases his latest projects.
Ingmar's commitment to leveraging technology for humanitarian purposes embodies the innovative and compassionate spirit of our foundation. His contributions are essential to advancing our goal of creating a safer world for deminers and civilians alike.

Jimmy Johansson
3D Design Specialist and Digital Innovator Jimmy Johansson is a dedicated student specializing in the design of digital and immersive experiences, with deep expertise in 3D design and experience in game development.
In his current role, he is responsible for creating visual 3D data, which plays a crucial part in advancing the organization's creative and technical visions. With a longstanding interest in digital creation in various forms, Jimmy draws inspiration from both games and films, which is reflected in his work.
His passion for 3D design drives him to continually develop and refine his skills, with the goal of working full-time in this field in the future. Jimmy's ambition is to further his expertise in 3D design and to help propel the organization forward with his specialized knowledge.

Ole Lidegran
Ole is a manager with both technical and pedagogical degrees from universities in Sweden. Ole's background as CIO and head of IT from several organizations, both public and private, adds a significant strength to DEMINE's capabilities.
Ole is heading the work group responsible for real-world data annotation for machine learning training. He is also the liaison between DEMINE and some of the student projects at Swedish universities.

Christopher Garrett
Christopher is a EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) technician working in Ukraine. He has been supporting Ukraine with landmine and UXO clearance since 2014, working alongside the Ukrainian armed forces and national police. He specializes in removing landmines and teaching demining and managing boobytrap threats to military units.
Christopher is a Ukrainian war veteran who has served with the Ukrainian National Guard between 2014-2018, supporting.
In 2022-2023, he served with GUR, the Ukrainian Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence, helping to create their first dedicated EOD unit in support of military operations.
Christopher is the Chairman and co-founder of Prevail, a US based 501c non-profit organization which he established in 2023. Prevail provides EOD training, medical and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

Andreas Robinson
Andreas is a Swedish computer vision researcher and a senior software and machine learning (ML) engineer. He holds a PhD from the Computer Vision Laboratory at Linköping University. While his primary professional focus is in the sports analytics industry, Andreas continues to engage in academic pursuits, dedicating part of his time to ML research.
At the foundation, he is a vital member of the ML team, where his responsibilities encompass the practical aspects of computer vision and robust object detection. He also contributes to pioneering research into novel methods in this field. Beyond his expertise in ML, Andreas is a versatile entrepreneur, serving as the CTO of a forestry company he co-founded.
His extensive professional background, which spans both academic and industrial realms, enriches the entire development process within the foundation, making him an invaluable asset to the team.

DEMINE Foundation’s principal founder, David Phipps, is a UK citizen and set up the charity in the UK as a Limited Liability Company (LLC). We follow all applicable laws and regulations, including tax laws. We are not dodging taxes, nor do we intend to dodge taxes.

DEMINE Foundation is registered as a charity under UK law. The charity is exempt from having the word 'Limited' (or 'Ltd') at the end of its name. It is common in the UK to use the word “foundation” in the title of a charity. Some examples are the British Heart Foundation, the Fairtrade Foundation, and the Police Foundation. We chose “DEMINE Foundation” as our name instead of “DEMINE Charity” both because we think is sounds better and because using the name “Charity” in our name would be less clear in an internationally context.

Due to the nature of our operations, we have chosen to not use our home addresses as the company address. Nor do we want the location where the actual work being done as the company address. This might change in the future, if we are offered a secure location for our operations.
